Every day phone technology breaks new boundaries. It seems like only last week that cameras where the latest gadgets on phones and people only dreamed of the internet on their cell. Some cynics claim that cell phone producers only wheel technology out that they have a had for a long time when they want people to buy a new phone. This may be true but it is still the case that phone technology is moving forwards at an alarming rate and it’s amazing how much rack and panel connectors they are now stuffing in those little boxes. So what are the newest advances we can expect to see in our phones?

Projectors. Rather than squinting at a tiny phone screen, how would you like to watch movies on your mobile movies on a 50″ display? Well the latest phones are offering just that and include a powerful built-in projector using LED buffer stop lights that can be used to project any image visible on the screen. The first to market this technology properly is Samsung, with their I7410. Which will be out in the US and UK soon. There is even talk of a newer version that uses new low smoke zero halogen cable technology that projects HD images.

Friend location. If you’re the kind of person who always likes to know where friends and family are, then Apple may have the answer. Their newest developments include a function that allows you to pinpoint anyone on a visual map who is linked up to your phone. You’ll be happy to know that people have to opt in for this service so people cannot just see where you are automatically, although caution is still advised.

Latest on how to search using Social Security Number

February 26, 2010 by pda · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Gadgets

The whole concept behind a social security number is to monitor people and their taxes. Children below fourteen where a few years back deemed as not being able to make income that could be taxed and were not suppose to have the number.

As soon as a person is born they are given a social security number as per the law because children above five could not be filled in as dependents on tax forms without their social security number. How can you possibly search someone free by social security number?

It is not everyone that has this number and the law does not force people to have this number but it is difficult to operate in this modern world without the number. Most financial and property institutions require you to have this number if you are going to be making use of their services and definitely if you are going to be applying for a job you need to have one.

It would be safe to assume that everyone has this number and so it is possible to search someone free by social security number. The best route to go about this search is by using people locator website that can enter government records.

You will then be able to use the government records to search someone free by social security number. I don’t believe that you’ll come across a website that doesn’t have these records. They’ll differ by how recent they are. It should not matter since a social security number does not change.

One site that has these records and that you can use to search someone free by social security number is skipease.com. As soon as you get it’ you’ll see how simple it is to conduct this search.

Top 10 Quick and Easy Photoshop Tricks Tips and Hints You’ll Actually Use

February 25, 2010 by pda · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Adobe keeps making great improvements and changes to Photoshop and though I cannot use it to it’s full potential I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. My wife, the Photoshop Guru, can do things with Photoshop that continually blow me away. I don’t have the newest Photoshop CS version, I still use Photoshop 7, so my apologies if any tips are no longer valid or are outdated.

Here you will find tep top Photoshop tips to show you how to use Photoshop in ways you never imagined, or possibly how to make better use of the tools you already know.

1- Edge Burn-in Technique

Try using the Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and select the area slightly smaller than the outer edge of the image (50-100 pixels, your preference). Now invert the selection (Select-Inverse) and make a Curves adjustment later to darken the edge and click OK. Then apply a heavy Gaussian Blur (Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur) to the layer mask with a Radius of around 100 pixels based on your preference. You can customize this by using the Brush tools or layer Opacity slider.

2- Make Image Midtones Pop

To avoid sharp shadows or highlights while bringing out the midtones try this technique. Make a background layer duplicate then select Filter, Sharpen, Unsharp Mask and set the Amount to 50, Radius to 20 and Threshold to 20 as well. Now from the Layers palette menu select Blending Options and in the This Layer section move the Shadow slider to 70 and Highlight to 185. Now press Alt (Option) and separate the triangular sliders to drag the shadow point to 0 and the highlight to 255 and click OK.

3- Make Fancy Edges for Images With Filters

Open a copy of your image so you keep your original intact and double click on the Background layer in the Layers palette. Next click OK so that the later is a Layer 0, or ‘normal’ layer. Use the Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and create a selection slightly smaller than the outer edge of the image same as in the edge burn-in technique above. Start Quick Mask (Q) then do Filter, Filter Gallery so you can apply the filters of your choice and then hit OK. Exit Quick Mask mode (Q again) and then click the Add Layer Mask icon in the Layers palette to mask the image in the shape you created.

4- Quick Layer Tip

When you add a new layer it appears at the top of the Layers palette. To make your new layer below the active layer and not the background layer press Ctrl (Command) when you click the Create a New Layer icon!

5- Make Cropped Images Match

With both images already opened, start by clicking on the image that is the correct size. Now select the Crop tool (C) and click on the Front Image button in the Options bar and the Width, Height and Resolution properties in the Options Bar are filled in for the front image. Next drag the crop area in the 2nd image and hit Enter (Return) and your 2nd image becomes the same size as the 1st.

6- Take Control of Sliders

When you move your cursor over a numeric option in most Option or dialog boxes a slider bar appears. If you want more control over the slider, pressing Alt (Option) and dragging the cursor makes the values move 10 times more slowly and holding the Shift key makes them move 10 times faster!

7- Is Your Histogram Accurate?

Make sure that the Histogram is updated and not an older verion showing your previous edits. If a small triangle appears on the Histogram you can click on it and it will update your version to the current one.

8- Reapply the Last Filter

If you want to use the same filter again with the same settings hold down Alt (Option) as you select the filter and it will open with the last-used settings. You can also use the shortcut Shift-Alt-F (Shift-Option-F) to reapply the filter.

9- Easy Crop Tool

When Cropping (C) click and drag outside the bounding box and this will allow the crop box to rotate any way you like to change the angle of your image or get it nice and straight. Double click inside the box to crop. We use this all the time in our digital camera repair shop when taking pictures of parts to be placed on the website, works great!

10- Make Crisp-Edged Shapes

When using the rectangular Shape tool, click on the down arrow to the right of the shapes in the Options Bar and turn on Snap to Pixels checkbox!

I hope you are able to find one or two items that will help with your Photoshop use, and as soon as I can find time to take a break from my Canon digital camera repair I will have more tips for you.

Should You Buy the iPod Touch or the iPhone?

February 24, 2010 by pda · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Gadgets

Why is the iPod Touch such a popular product, with seemingly little competition? The fact is that it’s an iPod, and that alone makes it stand out. The iPod brand wins out over others any day, in the eyes of most consumers, because of a whole set of factors that are all its own. To put these factors simply, the iPod brand is popular, it is attractive and it is trusted. The last one is perhaps the most important. In a world of ever changing electronics consumers never know what to buy, and so they put their faith in the brand they’ve been told is the best-and the brand that has so far lived up to that claim.

The iPod App Store brings to light a significant factor in the iPod Touch’s popularity. Because of the wide variety of software that consumers can buy, the Touch doesn’t merely compete with MP3 Players like other iPods do. The Touch is actually being seen as competition for handheld gaming devices and PDAs as well.

The iPod Touch is marketed as a gaming device, and the music functionality is secondary. Much like the iPhone is a phone that “happens” to have a built in iPod, the Touch is a handheld gaming console that happens to have the same. Apple has pushed the Touch that way for several reasons. For one, it works. For another though, they don’t want to distract you from buying the iPhone. So which one should you buy? The differences between the two devices are so minuscule that people already question buying the more expensive phone. It’s not like the phone does a whole lot more anyway.

Consider the functions of both devices. Drawing the line between them isn’t hard. The iPhone (based on the 3GS) has phone functionality, GPS functionality, a compass, and Bluetooth. It also has a great touch screen, incredible video display, an accelerometer, internet functionality and WiFi. As for the iPod Touch, it has all the latter, but lacks the rest.

If you were to purchase an iPod Touch today, you’ll likely find that in the next year or so you want to take advantage of all the things you’re missing out on that the iPhone offers. Those things are becoming more practical every day, and more people are expected to have access to such things for work. When this realization hits you, you’ll end up with a second device – iPhone or competing product – that you wouldn’t have needed if you just went a step above the Touch in the first place.

Ask yourself what you’d want the device for. If it’s a phone, you already have one. The iPhone’s phone isn’t anything special, it just happens to be built in. If it’s a camera you want, you likely have that on your current phone. If it’s GPS functionality, maybe the iPhone is for you, though buying one of many other GPS enabled phones for a lot less money is also an option.

The iPhone isn’t bad. In fact, it’s great. The iPod Touch is great as well, and for most people, as all of this shows, it’s the better choice. Why spend extra money and sign contracts? Owning an iPod Touch is just easier, and still allows you to do just about all the same things.

Thanks to the iPod, we now listen to music in an entirely different way. But it’s not just the sound that people are interested in. An iPod can also be a fashion statement, and there are lots of iPod gadgets that can dress up your device. Learn more at Gizmos, Gadgets and Toys.
